Simple Stagecoach Flowers: Our Story

From Our Family to Yours!

I (Emily) started a large cutting garden in 2022 with the intent to share flowers with the local community at little or no cost. My popular "$5 or free" offering allowed small donations for the bouquets, but many were given away for free as a way to spread joy! I absolutely loved the process of growing and arranging flowers, and it brought me so much peace and fulfillment to work in the garden and bless others in a small way.

By 2023, the demand was already growing for flowers, and with no florist in our small town, I saw a need and wanted to fill that gap. My husband Alex and I, along with our 3 children, took the leap and expanded the cutting garden to a large flower field, so that blooms could be available April-October. After some careful garden planning and paperwork, we were officially licensed and ready for business! I sketched a logo and decided on a name. Simple Stagecoach Flowers, came from 3 lines of thought: 1) Simple and slow living is something we strive for here in our family; 2) Our home, built in 1860, is believed to be an old stagecoach stop on the way from Springfield to St. Louis; and 3) We sell flowers. 😊

Alex works full time as a software engineer and I was a Physician Assistant before chosing to stay home full-time and homeschool our children. We are not farmers and did not grow up on farms, so honestly, while this is often called a "flower farm", to us, it's just our really big flower garden. I have always loved learning and I read constantly about growing flowers. I truly enjoy creating bouquets and flower crafts. Alex is the perfect support, and though his work is often not glamorous, wheeling mulch, spreading compost, or building beds, it keeps things running here.

Over the first season, the support we had was amazing and we often had more orders than we could even fill. Our $10 wrapped bouquets were available daily, we attended the weekly local farmer's market, and extended the season by offering dried flower wreaths and bouquets. We were able to connect with so many people through the shared love that giving and receiving flowers brings. It really solidified the mission for our newly formed business: "Spreading joy through flowers". Specialty cut flowers are a luxury, but we do not believe that they should be exclusive to only those living in a larger city, or those that can afford the often high price point. It is our goal to provide beautiful, locally grown, chemical free flowers to anyone in need.

Moving forward, our mission to spread some joy is the same. Flowers are carefully started from seed each year, grown to maturity, and then harvested at their perfect stage to ensure the longest possible bloom. There are absolutely no pesticides used on our plants, and we use no-till practices on the flower beds to foster great soil health. We do not use plastic coverings on the ground, due to the environmental waste it creates, and our paper bouquet wrapping is 100% recyclable. We strive to grow a variety of native and non-native plants to provide great diversity for pollinators. Everyone, including the pollinators, deserve fragrant, blooms full of color and life!

We hope you are blessed by the flowers that we can offer now, and that you will follow along with our journey as we continue to grow!
